Expanding and enhancing his campaign for the final weeks leading up to the November 7 general election, Cleveland Mayor Frank G. Jackson named key additions to the campaign’s leadership today.
Michael Bowen has been named as campaign manager, and he will oversee day-to-day operations. Bowen has worked in key leadership positions for several successful campaigns, including the arts and culture levy in 2015. Bowen is an attorney with Taft Stettinius & Hollister, and will be taking a leave of absence from the firm for the duration of the campaign.
In addition, Mayor Jackson announced that R Strategy Group will lead campaign strategy and communications. Firm vice president Jon Benedict will serve as chief strategist and work with Jeff Rusnak, R Strategy Group’s president and CEO, on media and other communication, and with vice president Kathy Berta on field outreach and volunteer activities. R Strategy Group’s team has more than 100 years of collective experience running numerous successful campaigns across Cleveland and throughout Ohio.
“We are very excited to join this great team and help ensure Mayor Jackson’s re-election,” says Bowen. “Cleveland has momentum today, and that’s thanks in large part to Mayor Jackson’s leadership. There is so much at stake in this election, and we have to continue the progress achieved under Mayor Jackson. We are confident that Clevelanders believe, like Mayor Jackson does, that our city’s future is bright if we protect and build on the progress Cleveland has made.”
The expansion of the campaign’s leadership team was announced to staff, supporters and consultants Thursday morning, Sept. 28, at the Jackson campaign headquarters in Cleveland. Wayne Clarke will remain a part of the campaign’s team and offer counsel as needed.
“I want to thank Mr. Clarke for his efforts build this campaign and to help win the primary election,” Jackson said. “We ae expanding our campaign team to ensure that we have the energetic leadership to take the campaign to the next level. I believe that this team will take us to victory in November.”
